What does CF3 mean?
CF3 stands for 'Cann Family Cycling for Cystic Fibrosis' - the initial
letters are CFCFCF which could be transformed to CF cubed or CF3. This
TLA owes some
inspiration to the names of many Hashing
clubs which end in H3 meaning Hash House Harriers.
Sam and Jim seem to be very short, normal names - where did the kids'
names come from ?
Sam responds; When I was expecting my first child we were going through
all sorts of names and Calamaty-Jayne came up in the conversation, which
being of pregnant mind, I thought was a good name. I wrote it on an envelope,
which I still have today, when my daughter was born all the cards came
to the hospital addressed to myself and Calamaty-Jayne because that is
what I said I would call the baby when it came, Because neither my mother
nor my husband are ever called by their proper names it made me think
well what's in a name, so Calamaty-Jayne it was to be.
When I was expecting my next child, again of pregnant mind, I was waiting
for some hay to be delivered and asked what time will the hay be, and
for some reason, I just thought I like that, and I always like to have
a double barrel bit, and liked blue, so that's how we got Haby-Blu.
Then some 6 years later my first son was born and I had a name all lined
up for him - Catastrophe-Jake, but even though the mid-wife wrote it on
her notes, Jim said no, so for the next six weeks, we worked very hard
on trying to decide what he should be, Just-jack, no, something jack,
after Jim's father who died the year before, which is what made us make
up our minds to have another child, so it had to be something
Jack really, and I finally came up with Capabilaty, even at the registrars
office, the lady left us for a moment to finally decide, and Capabilaty-Jack
it was to be.
Thirteen months later my last child was born, I wanted some thing starting
with B and we also like the name Jango as in
Django the French musician. Jim's grandfather came from Bow so that was
Bow, we dropped the D because that would be even more confusing,
so we have Bow-Jango.
So there you have it, either don't choose a name for your child when you
are pregnant or they will have to put up with your mad mind for ever.
Our children aren't bothered, they have all got 'interesting' names together
so they have never known any different - they can always change them
later if they really want to. What's in name.?
The Hashing fraternity give runners new names - what are yours ?
Jim is known as Big Daddy because he is always followed by a stream
of kids.
Sam is called Do Will Do because she's game for anything (mad).
Calamaty's hash name is Marthy - apparently the infamous sharp-shooting
lady of the same name was actually called Marthy Jane Canary.
Haby's hash name is Tak as in blue tak.
Capability Jack is known as Lancelot, which was the name of one of Capability
Brown's relatives.
Bow-Jango is called Derek - think of the stunning actress in '10'.
TLA stands for Three Letter Acronym ;-)
